Now, if you have read any of my previous HIMYM posts, you will know that I am not really a fan of Robin Scherbatsky. I can not put my finger on it, but just something about her character usually rubs me the wrong way. I say "usually" because there are moments here and there when I find myself rooting for Robin. As much as I hate to admit it, I was as happy as any other superfan out there when Robin turned out to be the bride in the season finale. So I thought it was fitting to make a list of all my favorite Robin and Barney moments on the show.
The first time we really saw Robin and Barney interact away from the group was in the episode, Zip, Zip, Zip. Robin is Barney's "bro" for the night and even suits up for the occasion. They hang at a cigar bar, go play laser tag and try to be wingmen for one another. Barney even feels the sexual chemistry (or so he thinks) and tries to seduce her. But at this point in the story, Robin has feelings for Ted, so that does not go anywhere. I do think the writers saw how fun an eventual pairing between the two would be from trying it out in this episode.
The Sandcastles in the Sand episode was an instant classic, just for the music video alone. Robin was dumped (again) by her high school boyfriend and was hurting bad. Barney spent most of the episode trying to track down said video, but in the end Robin showed it to them. They spent the night watching it over and over again, and ended up in bed together.
I am also a sucker for any episode where Barney and/or Robin are pining away for one another. Especially when the other person is in a relationship and they are alone. One of these moments that sticks out is when Barney tells Lily that he is in love with Robin and tries to change his behavior for her. At this point, Robin has no idea what is going on and has no clue that he is in love with her. Yet another sweet moment was when Robin got Barney another shot with Nora, even though it broke her heart to do so. The look on her face when those two walked away together was a little heartbreaking.
Another favorite Robin and Barney moment happened this past season. It was not the fact that Robin was the bride after all, but I did squeal a little when she turned around, it was the episode where Robin thinks she's pregnant. That scene where Robin is locked in the bathroom and Barney comes in and talks to her, is a really sweet moment. Until she punches him out over and over and over again. Hilarious. Robin is really one touch chick, and it's funny seeing Barney take punch after punch from her. It was also bittersweet when they discovered Robin wasn't pregnant and were dancing in the doctor's office. It's little moments like that, when they seem like maybe they could be soulmates, that has me rooting for them this upcoming season.
